We want you to join us as a COVID-19 Vaccine Champion! Make a difference in your community and help save lives by promoting the COVID-19 vaccine. The Berrien County Health Department has joined forces with the United Way of Southwest Michigan and the Van Buren-Cass District Health Department to mobilize individuals and nonprofits to combat misinformation and reach those who remain hesitant to the vaccine throughout Southwest Michigan.

Who are you looking for?
We are looking for fully vaccinated teens and adults in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties to help promote COVID-19 vaccines with their family, friends, and neighbors. Our goal is to get more accurate health information out into the community and increase the number of people who receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

What do I need to know?
Vaccine Champions may do things like door-to-door outreach, talk to family or friends in-person, post facts about the COVID-19 vaccine on social media, or drive others to vaccination appointments. Vaccine Champions are asked to report on their activities regularly and will be given a stipend of $300 per month for approximately 20 hours of work per month, starting in August through the end of October. Those wishing to be a Vaccine Champion must have already received a COVID-19 vaccine.

What do I need to do?
To apply, visit volunteer.uwsm.org and click on the "COVID-19 Vaccine Champions" volunteer opportunity. Then, click the blue “respond” button and create an account following the prompts. Brief interviews will be held with those who apply. Not everyone will be selected. More information, training, and tools will be provided at a training session.

Vaccine Champions must attend one of these one-hour trainings:

  •  August 16th – 3:00 pm, Benton Harbor
  • August 17th – 1:00 pm, Lawrence
  • August 19th – 9:00 am, Online
