PERSONAL SAFETY FOR WOMEN:
This program is taught in a classroom atmosphere. Ideas and ways to avoid becoming a victim of a crime are discussed, along with how to avoid an attack.
R.A.D.
The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. This 12-hour course provides women with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance.
DRUNK DRIVING AWARENESS FOR ADULTS:
This program is designed to make people aware of the laws governing drunk driving and to show causes and effects of drunk driving accidents. Participants can drive a golf cart on an obstacle course while wearing goggles that simulate being
intoxicated.
SAFETY BELT/SAFETY SEAT PROGRAM:
The Safety Seat Program is designed to teach adults the proper use of seat belts and child safety seats. This includes securing child safety seats into the vehicle and their importance.
ROAD RAGE:
The Road Rage Program is designed for adults and teenagers. The Program defines road rage and discusses contributing factors to the rage. Films and other materials are used.
HOME SECURITY PROGRAM:
The Home Security Program instructs adults on how to properly secure their homes and their surroundings. The program touches on key control, good locks, and good windows, etc.
HOME SECURITY CHECKS:
The Crime Prevention Unit will come to a home on request and inspect the home and property. Upon completion of the Security Check, the Deputy will inform the homeowner of ways they may make their surroundings more secure. There is no cost for this service.
IDENTITY THEFT - WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. This program educates you about ID theft, how to protect your identity and what to do if it happens to you!
CONFIDENCE GAMES AND SWINDLES:
This program is designed to educate adults and the elderly against the dangers of confidence games and swindlers, such as: home repair frauds, driveway scams, mail fraud, and telemarketing.
SENIOR CITIZEN'S ACADEMY:
A 24-30 hour block of instruction designed to give the public a better understanding of the Sheriff's Department. It is also a great way for seniors to meet the officer's in their community. It is a series of classes that are held once a week for three hours. The instructors are from the department and cover a different topic every hour or two.
SENIOR SAFETY:
Senior Safety is taught to the elderly. The course touches on personal safety, fire safety, and calling 911. Con games, swindles, home security, and seatbelt usage are also covered in this course.
LATCH KEY PROGRAM FOR ADULTS/SENIORS:
The LatchKey Program is designed for adults and senior citizens who stay home alone. This program covers a variety of topics, including 911, how to secure your home, and what to do in case of an emergency.
SENIOR ID'S:
Photographs and Health information are taken for the senior. The information is turned over to the senior to be placed on their refrigerator so Emergency Services Personnel has access to the information in case the senior is incapacitated.
FIRE SAFETY FOR SENIORS:
Learn about the causes of fires, types of extinguishers, exit drills for the elderly, and emergency planning. Older people are at special risk for death and injury from fires. Prevent fires - save lives.
FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION:
This program teaches adults how to protect the assets of their parents and signs to watch out for.
ELDER ABUSE:
Elder abuse is taught to both the elderly and to home health care workers. It identifies the signs of elder abuse and neglect. The course touches on the proper reporting of such actions and how to avoid dangerous situations for the elderly.
WORKING WITH THE ELDERLY:
This program reviews the rights of the elderly in nursing home and assisted living facilities. The program discusses abuse, vulnerable adults, neglect, larceny, embezzlement and reporting responsibilities. Crime prevention practices are presented for the elderly and suggestions for staff working with the elderly.
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS FOR WORKING WITH THE ELDERLY:
This program is for persons employed in the health care field who work with the elderly. This course discusses crimes against the elderly, how to protect the elderly, health care worker safety and how to report incidents.
OTHER PROGRAMS AVAILABLE:
Tailored programs are available for businesses and individuals throughout the community at no charge. The Crime Prevention Office is willing to work with any individual on a customized program.
